10820 Gainsborough Road - Fox Hills - $675,000

This was one of the original homes built by Pulte in the Fox Hills community of Potomac.

In the 70's this community was one of the more sought after on the Rockville side of Potomac. With 4 Bedrooms and 2.5 baths this was a perfect home for raising a family with kids. The neighborhood is very cohesive with good schools and a great location. The neighborhood has aged gracefully and is still attractive for all of the same reasons.

This home is mostly original. The kitchen has had an update and is certainly functional. The parquet floor in the kitchen has been well maintained but is out of style. The bathrooms are mostly original as is the slate in the foyer.

This home is old with good bones. Although perfectly functional, a buyer could put some money into it and have a very nice home in a great community. Those on a budget can slowly make improvements and get almost all of their money back when the market picks up.

This home is pretty and has nice curb appeal. Although Gainsborough Road has become much busier over the years, this section of Gainsborough is not as heavily travelled as other parts.

This one is priced a bit high at $675K. It will probably need to be below $650K to get a serious look and more realistically will sell in the $635K range.

  1. this house has been reduced to 649,000 and still in the market. I think busy street plus no major improvements plus unfinished basement with no independent entrance, make it not 1st option for potential buyers.

I'm still looking in that fox hills neighborhood

  2. We live in this model on another street and generally love the layout. The unfinished basement is a plus, take a look at a few basements finished in 1970 and clearly you can see why the unfinished is more appealing than the old, outdated finished. However, do not me mislead Gainsborough is a highly traveled road with high traffic volume. In addition to it being a Ride-On Bus Route and emergency route which sends massive firetrucks and EMS vehicles up and down at all times of the day. The old hint of the double yellow line holds true.

  3. Thanks so much for the e-mail. The house is a great floor plan and neighborhood is lovely. The original price of $675K was too high for the market based upon the condition of the home.

Once the property was reduced to $649K, the home generated some interest. It is currently under contract and I am guessing it will sell for close to my originally predicted price of $635K.

Stay tuned...I will update the post once it settles.
