Speed Cameras Replaced in Chevy Chase - Fox 5 DC

Chevy Chase has replaced its existing speed cameras with expensive, latest generation, "Laser" cameras. This will allow them to catch more then one driver at a time if speeding in Chevy Chase village.

The funds raised by these fines are supposed to be used to increase public safety in Chevy Chase village. Fox 5 DC news reports that the funds are actually being used to fund capital improvement projects and buy new lockers for the police department locker room.

The best advice this post can offer is to drive the speed limit in Chevy Chase. Big Brother is alive and well and looking to ticket you if you choose to speed!

How do you feel about Speed Cameras? Are they a necessary part of public safety, or an invasion of privacy? Please comment!

  1. after a very terrible aggressive driver experience this evening (insection of Bells Mill and Democracy), i feel it is necessary to keep this cameras up. while it is "big brother-ish," there are some very dangerous people on the road with little regard for the rules and/or others on the road. if a ticket once in a while would curb some of their behavior, i think it is necessary. thanks for a wonderful site!

  2. I am fine with the cameras - I am not happy that they are squandering the income on capital improvement projects in Chevy Chase and money is going into the general fund in other parts of Montgomery County.

They really should earmark that money for things that will improve road and traffic safety.

Crazy drivers on Bells Mill? Yep - especially at the bottom end - there are some VERY poor and RUDE drivers out there.

Be safe! Thank you so much for the comments!

  3. Yes, I agree with you. The money raised should be used towards other traffic related issues.

Regarding Bells Mill (possibly this area in general), I am unclear why there is such confusion around how a 4 way stop sign works.

The driver ran a stop sign, spit at my car, stopped his car at the bottom of the street, got out and yelled at me with my two young children strapped in the back.

Of course, I don't expect you to post this comment, but maybe if you did it might help some of your readers keep their eyes out (older white Volvo station wagon with a white male driver in early 40s).

I wish you had reviewed our home before purchase (Aug 09).

  4. Sorry to hear of your experience there. It is hard to understand how some folks get licensed.

Please tell others about this site. If I can ever be of assistance to you, your family or friends, I would be happy to assist!

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.
